How to turn down background sound

I have installed new stages, some of them have background music, the music is so loud that I can't hear the fighting sounds.
How can I turn down background sound volume?

Open the .def files of the stages, scroll down to the "Volume" line, then set something like "-255".

that doesn't work well, i suggest you use a mp3 music volume modifier like mp3gain

Yeah, that helps too. In case the music is Midi, you can change the MIDI volume in the Options.

Isn't there any general setting for entire background music volume in system.def or mugen.cfg, etc...?

Nope, only for MIDIs. There are sound options, but these affect the char's sounds as well ¬¬
