Slow downloads and dodgy PS3 connections? Try this... Firstly let's start with a bit of wireless networking 101. Try getting a direct 'line of sight' between yourwireless router and your PS3. Pull them out both out from alcoves and behinddense furniture and try to minimise the number of obstacles between both boxes. (Nothing degrades your Wi-Fi signal like a nice stone fireplace....)

Next, stand your PS3 on its on end. The PS3's antenna is located in the right hand side so standing itup on its left-edge gives it a bigger spread. Ideally put your router up on a high shelf.

Finally -and this is the clever bit - take a Coke can (other soft drinks are available)and cut the top off. Cut down the sides of the cup-like can and fan out thedivisions slightly so it looks like a weird metal flower. Now make a hole inthe bottom and place your new 'high-gain antenna' over your router's stubby aerialso it pokes through. Now point it at your PS3. Sounds mad, looks awful, but you could see a 10% boost in signal strength.

1) Open the top cover of the PS3.

2) Pull out the power plug for the Blu-ray drive.

3) Carefully pull up the Blu-ray drive and unclip the data cable ribbon from PS3 drive.

4) Remove the two silver screws on top right and bottom right according to the picture (screwdriver is pointing at them)

5) Unsrew the 3 black screws to the left as well (screwdriver pointing)

6) Remove the top metal sheilding of the Blu-ray drive, exposing the guts.

7) Remove the top frame now that we are inside to reveal the laser (unscrew the screws)

8) Once that is done you should be staring at the Blu-ray laser.

9) Remove the Blu-ray lens screws

10) More screws to remove (screwdriver pointing)

11) There you go after removing all those screws the laser should easily come out, simply repeat the process for another working Blu-ray drive and extract its Blu-ray lens or just simply buy a replacement part (part #kem-400aaa) and insert it in the Blu-ray drive and start rescrewing.

1. Turn off Playstation3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up

Restart System:
Restarts the PLAYSTATION3 System.

Restore Default Settings:
Reset all system settings back to default.

Restore File System:
Checks for corrupt/missing system files.

Rebuild Database:
Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION3.

Restore PS3 System:
Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.

System Update:
Update the PLAYSTATION3 System
